Jan 27, 2021 · Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) Filaments on the polycarbonate filters were imaged with a scanning electron microscope (JEOL Neoscope II JCM-6000, Japan) to identify filament sections suitable for NanoSIMS analysis. Imaging was done under a 0.1–0.3 mbar vacuum and a high accelerating voltage (15 kV) using a backscattered electron detector.

Full-thickness samples, including cartilage and mucoperichondrium, were removed from the anterior and posterior nasal septum and examined under light and electron microscopy.
